JEE Main 2019

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2019 will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). It was being conducted by CBSE until 2018. Performance in JEE Main will be the criteria for admission to the Undergraduate Courses at NITs (National Institute of Technology), IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology), CFTIs (Centrally Funded Technical Institutions), Institutions funded by State Governments in participation and other technical institutes. Class 12th / other equivalent examination qualifying marks will be the additional criteria for admission besides JEE Main performance. Paper 1 for B.E. / B.Tech of JEE Main will serve as the eligibility test for JEE Advance for admission to Undergraduate courses at IITs (Indian Institute of Technology).

JEE Main will be conducted twice before the admission process begins for the 2019 session. The first exam will be conducted in January, 2019 and the second in April, 2019. NTA will offer different dates and shifts for both attempts. The better of the two scores will be chosen for preparation of merit list and ranking. Forms for the Second Attempt will be released in February, 2019.

Aadhar number is not mandatory for filling the entrance examination form; however it will ensure accuracy of personal details. Any Government identity number including passport, ration card, bank account number can be used for filling the form.

Main Changes in JEE Main 2019

NTA has brought a number of changes in JEE Main Examination.

  • Mode: Paper 1 (B.E. / B.Tech) will be CBT (Computer Based Test). Paper 2 (B.Arch. / B. Planning) will have two parts in different modes. Part 1 for Mathematics and Aptitude will be CBT while Part 2 for Drawing will be in pen and paper mode.
  • Two Attempts: JEE Main 2019 will be held twice, in January and in April. Candidates may appear in either or both.
  • Age Limit: There is no age limit for appearing in NTA JEE Main 2019. Those who have passed 10+2 in 2017, 2018 or, are appearing in 2019 may appear for the exam.
  • Application Fee Reduced: Application fee has been reduced for different categories.
  • Common Service Centers (CSCs): 1.5 lakh CSCs have been set up across the country to help in filling and submission of forms.
  • Mock Tests: NTA is offering registrations for weekly Mock Tests. They can be really helpful in getting a hold of examination pattern. Students can practice, revise and allay their examination fears by getting a feel of the exam beforehand. NTA has made available the Test Practice Centers (TPCs) in schools and colleges. Candidates can try mock tests on computers in these centers on Saturdays and Sundays (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM) and on workdays (2:00PM – 4:00PM) . NTA App can be used to locate the nearest TPC.
  • Unique Question Papers: Each candidate will get a unique question paper. No two candidates will get the same set of questions. Questions in each question paper will be randomly picked. The difficulty level of questions will progress from easy to difficult.
  • Better Score: It would be great to sit for both JEE Main 2019 attempts. The better of the score in January and April exam will be considered for merit lists and rankings.
  • Exam Centers: Number of test cities at the national level is now 264. At international it is 9. Dhaka is no more a test city for JEE Main.

The 4 steps to filling JEE Main 2019 application form are:

  1. Fill the personal details to complete the form.
  2. Upload the Photograph and Signature.
  3. Pay the fee – online or through e-challan.
  4. Take a printout of the confirmation page.

Here are a few things worth keeping in mind while filling the form:

  1. Visit the official website for NTA JEE Main 2019. The form submission process is completely online. There is no provision for offline forms.
  2. Read the Information Bulletin for JEE Main 2019 before proceeding.
  3. Go to the registration page and start filling the form.
  4. Note down the system generated application number.
  5. Do some background research before filling the choices for examination city.
  6. Your ID card (Aadhar, Passport, Ration Card etc.) is very important. Be accurate with it.
  7. Make strong password by using special characters.
  8. Check the details twice before finalizing the form.
  9. Keep scanned copies of recent passport size photograph and signature. It is convenient to upload them on your email as well. Maximum image size allowed for uploading – Photograph (20-200 kb) and Signature (4-30 kb) in JPEG format.
  10. The Confirmation Page appears only when the fee has been successfully processed.
  11. NTA allows one time correction facility. Keep visiting the official website for updates.

JEE Main 2019 Examination Pattern

  • Mode of Examination:
    1. Paper I: Computer Based Test (CBT) only.
    2. Paper II: Computer Based Test (CBT) only for Part I (Mathematics) and Part II (Aptitude). Part III (Drawing) is offline mode to be attempted on Drawing Sheet.
  • Allocation of Date and Shift: Random
  • Number of Shifts and Timings: Two Shifts per day, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
  • Medium of Question Paper: English and Hindi (All Exam Centers); Gujarati (Centers in Gujarat, Daman and Diu and Dadar and Nagar Haveli)

Four (4) Marks for Correct answer and Minus One (-1) for Incorrect answer. Zero(0) marks for unattempted questions or those marked for review.

      • Method of Merit Determination

Scores in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry will be added to get a total score which would be called NTA score. The Merit List will be prepared by taking into account the NTA scores of all candidates who appear for the exam in both shifts across all examination days.

      • Identical Total Scores

The following procedure will be followed in case two or more candidates have identical total scores. These criteria in descending order will be given priority for preparing ranking list.

      1. Score in Mathematics
      2. Score in Physics
      3. Score in Chemistry
      4. Candidates older in age
      5. Candidates will be given same rank in case of tie if application of this procedure fails.
      • Paper II (B.Arch. / B. Planning) – Part I (Mathematics) and Part II (Aptitude) Computer Based Test (CBT), and Part III (Drawing) in Pen and Paper Mode
      • Distribution of Questions: Total 82 Questions

      • Marking Scheme: Maximum Marks 390

Part I and Part II: Four (4) Marks for Correct answer and Minus One (-1) for Incorrect answer. Zero(0) marks for unattempted questions or those marked for review.

Part III: Two questions to be evaluated out of 70 marks.

      • Method of Merit Determination

                               Merit List will be prepared by compiling the Total Marks of all candidates.

      • Identical Total Scores

                              The following procedure will be followed in case two or more candidates have identical total scores. These criteria in descending order will be given priority for preparing ranking list.

            1. Marks in Aptitude Test.
            2. Marks in Drawing Test.
            3. Candidates older in age.

JEE Main 2019 Eligibility Criteria

      • Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2019.  Candidates who have appeared in class 12th examination in 2017 or 2018, or are appearing in 2019, regardless of age can sit for JEE Main 2019.  However, candidates should take note of the age limit for admission to various institutions that they wish to take admission in.
      • Number of Subjects in Qualifying Examination: Candidates should have opted for atleast five (5) subjects in class XII qualifying examination to be eligible for appearing in JEE Main 2019.

Minimum Qualifying Marks: For admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, through Central Seat Allocation Board, the candidate must have scored a minimum of 75% marks in class XII examination, or shall be in top 20% percentile of her/his respective board. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum requirement in 65%.

The Admit Cards for first attempt for JEE Main 2019 will be available from December 17, 2018 onwards. Candidates shall download their admit cards from the JEE Main website only and take good note of their examination Center, Date and Shift. In case there are problems in downloading the admit card, candidates should call on the Helpline between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm from 17th December to 23rd December. Admits cards shall be preserved in good condition for future reference.

JEE Main 2019 Counseling

Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will conduct the counseling for JEE Main 2019. It will be responsible for allotting seats to qualifying and eligible candidates for admission to participating Technical Institutions. Candidates will have to register online on the JoSAA or Central Seat Allocation Board website. They will be able to make Branch and College choices online at appropriate time. Some States may also bring out their separate criteria for admission while considering the rank and score in JEE Main 2019.
